Schools of Peace

Non-violent education for the next generation

The Schools of Peace is Sant'Egidio Nigeria's flagship educational programme where children and young people learn that another world is possible. Through friendship, storytelling, and dialogue, we equip the next generation with the tools of peace.

Founded on the conviction that peace must be taught and not merely hoped for, our Schools of Peace operate in communities across Lagos, Abuja, Kano, Port Harcourt, and beyond. Each session brings together children from different backgrounds, ethnicities, and faiths, learning side by side.

Volunteer educators lead weekly sessions that explore conflict resolution, human dignity, the value of friendship, and the lives of peacemakers throughout history. Children are not passive recipients. They become ambassadors of peace within their families and neighbourhoods.

Over a decade of this work, we have seen children grow into community leaders, mediators, and advocates for the vulnerable. The School of Peace is not a classroom. It is a community.
